what i learnt from my audeicne feedback...

From my audience feedback, I learnt that music videos are more popular than I expected also the main age’s group that list 14-25. I asked 50people what they thought of my video, they said I could improve it in many places, and maybe make some of the scenes shorter as it drags abit, however they were impressed with what I had created.  45/50 people said that my ancillary texts match my music video, 37/50 also guessed the genre of all three correctly, meaning I have conveyed the genre well.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have used a variety of camera shots throughout my media video. Throughout conventional, existing music videos, the most frequent camera shots used are: Long shots, close ups, extra close ups and medium shots. These are commonly used as they express emotion and state the location. For example, I have used close ups and extra close ups throughout my music video, this is to express the slow, sad emotion that the song conveys. Also I used close ups and extra close ups when the lyrics are synced to the artist, singing. This adds emphatic stress to the lyrics of the song, which allows the audience to focus upon the lyrics of song, which furthermore allows the message that the song is conveying to be more obvious. I have used longshots throughout my music video to state the location. The location is important to my music because it is relevant to the song, in the sense that the song is slow and calm, and the location is tranquil. I used medium shots throughout to emphasis the artist. I also took the calmness of the song, into consideration when thinking about lighting.  I made sure the lighting was duller than normal, because of the tranquillity of the location and the slow tone of the song. All these things are conventional to music videos, as conventional music videos link the music to the song and emphasis the location, the artist and emotion using such cinematography as stated.

The editing within my video is a very important factor. It is the key stage to making my music video looking professional and conventional. The most commonly used editing format is jump cutting, this changes the scene which makes the video more entertaining and allows the editing to fit with the pace of the song. I have used fades, as it makes the transaction from scene to scene much smoother, which therefore reflects the smoothness and calmness of the song. The fades also match the pace of the song. I synced the artist to the lyrics of the song, which is very conventional of existing music video. This adds a performance element to the music video making my video conventional. I have matched the changes of pace and tone in the song to the scenes shown on the music video; this is also conventional to existing music videos, as it adds emphasis. I Edited my music video to be black and white, this reflects the emotional side of the song, this is conventional to slow calm songs, for example Ed Sheeran’s ‘a team’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWcs5H-qgQ&ob=av3n

I have dressed my artist in summery clothes, with a flowered headband, although the scenes around her are dull, this allows her to stand out, conventional music videos make the artist stand out as videos are there to promote the artist. Also it conveys the artist’s ideology and representation as positive, which makes them more likable to the audience, which furthermore promotes the artist to more fans. The locations in which the music video is set in reflects the genre and style of the music. I chose to use the locations I used eg. River bank as it is simple and most people can relate to this. It is conventional of my genre of music video’s to use simple locations as this adds more emotion.
